Artist Statement: The Beauty I See in You
Portraits are my passion, as each person is an aspect of The Divine. One's inner beauty eminates from a Spirit Capture Oil Portrait, as well as representing your physical likeness.
I grew up on the Mason Dixon line slalom skiing around water moccasins,
dancing with fireflies, climbing trees and tipping cows in the Missouri boot heel.
At five years old my mother died, provoking my survival-oriented curiosity
around spirituality, world religions and philosophies.
I truly love people and have an intense need to express my deep appreciation.
As a portrait artist, I look at and within my client, deeply empathetic for his or her personal story. During the sitting, I script an intimate, intuitive reading to support their life vision. I call this writing ‘a love letter from my deepest heart to yours.’
Formerly a graphic designer, the power of text and image impacted me. My portraits incorporate my intuitive readings. This calligraphic script represents one's sacred life visions to empower, enrich and inspire.
Constant ‘risks’ enable me to maintain a distinct, fearless artistic style. By refusing to accept psychological, technical or external boundaries in my art, painting is my meditative, spiritual practice. Throughout years of studying world philosophies, traditions, teachings and religion, Spirit Capture Oil Portraits evolved as my mission in life.
Anthropological adventure travel enables me to freely embrace various media and symbolism; gold leaf, henna design, quotes, textiles, Reiki symbols, hieroglyphics, beads, or metallic inks. Adventure travels feeds me. ‘How does the world see ‘God’? How can paintings be prayers?’ I safaried through Africa where a Zulu Medicine man 'threw my bones,' I motorcycled Andalucia, SCUBAed ‘Shark Alley' Turks 'n Caicos, skydive, hiked glaciers, bungee Whistler, rode camels in the Sahara and much more to release my fears and explore life at its fullest.
I found my identity by painting portraits, and I support others in finding theirs as we explore their deepest and highest love and passions. As a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner (RScP) and Reiki Practitioner, I committ 10% of my earnings to philanthropic causes close to my heart because I believe we are meant to care for one another in this lifetime.
